Weird NHL Vol. 127: Peak Weirdness Has Arrived
Welcome back to Weird NHL! In this volume, hockey once again delivers the unpredictable, the hilarious, and the downright unbelievable.
We kick things off with St. Louis Blues goaltender Jordan Binnington, who attempts to hide the puck after Alex Ovechkin scores his historic 900th career goal — and yes, the cameras caught everything.
Then the Montreal Canadiens and Calgary Flames get a rare start under dim arena lighting, as the houselights take their time to come on.
William Nylander defies physics with an open-net shot that somehow stays out vs. Boston, while Patrick Kane hilariously can’t finish into a yawning cage himself.
We’ve got rookie chaos when New York Islanders defenseman Matthew Schaefer ends up hugging a Detroit Red Wings player during a scrum. And over in Carolina, goaltender Brandon Bussi accidentally skates off the ice thinking there’s a delayed penalty — only to sprint back when he realizes play is still live!
Elsewhere, a broadcaster calling the Edmonton Oilers vs. Chicago Blackhawks game prematurely celebrates a Toronto Blue Jays World Series win… until the replay proves otherwise.
Vegas Golden Knights netminder Carl Lindbom gets trapped under a fallen net, Brayden Schenn loses the puck on a shootout attempt he’d love back, and the Pittsburgh Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers see two overtime goals waived off after review.
Charlie McAvoy battles an uncooperative water bottle, the Blackhawks and Jets get some absolutely wild bounces, and Yaroslav Askarov goes on an adventure playing the puck in the corner!
Yeah. This league.
