Macron Meets Xi Jinping, Signs Deals in Beijing | Daybreak Europe 12/4/2025

Published

on

Bloomberg Daybreak Europe is your essential morning viewing to stay ahead. Live from London, we set the agenda for your day, catching you up with overnight markets news from the US and Asia. And we’ll tell you what matters for investors in Europe, giving you insight before trading begins.

On today’s show, Presidents Emmanuel Macron and Xi Jinping are meeting in Beijing as part of a three-day visit for the French leader. The pair are expected to discuss a range of issues from economics and trade, to Taiwan and the war in Ukraine.

US President Donald Trump says a meeting between his envoy Steve Witkoff and Vladimir Putin was “reasonably good”. But the President acknowledged he doesn’t know what the outcome will be after successive rounds of talks over a deal to end the fighting in Ukraine.

Donald Trump’s allies are considering having Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent take on the additional role of heading the National Economic Council if Kevin Hassett becomes Fed chair, a move that would consolidate Bessent’s oversight of Trump’s economic policies.

Today’s guests: Joyce Chang, JP Morgan Global Research Chair & Glen Gowers, Co-founder and CEO of Basecamp Research.
