Fed’s Miran on Rate Cuts, Inflation, Future at Fed

Federal Reserve Governor Stephen Miran said he is looking for about 150 basis points of interest rate cuts this year to boost the labor market. Miran repeated his argument that the current stance of policy remains well above his estimate for neutral and said it remains unclear whether he might remain at the central bank after his term expires.

Meta’s Zuckerberg, Nvidia’s Huang Push Alternatives to AI Slowdown

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said artificial intelligence labs should rely on independent evaluators and advisers to ensure that models are safe, while Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang dismissed the need for new AI security regulations, arguing that market forces will help companies safely innovate. Though leaders from Anthropic and other major labs have discussed an orchestrated slowdown of tech development, others have called for alternative approaches. 

Stocks and bonds are finding relief after days of selling as traders wait for the Federal Reserve’s latest interest-rate decision and updated projections before placing bets on where markets will head next.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen proposed Canada becoming the first associate member of the European Union. She offered the invitation during her state of the union address in Strasbourg, France, with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney in attendance.
