Jordan Intercepts 5 Iranian Missiles as Iran War Escalates | Horizons Middle East & Africa 7/30/2026

Published

on

Global markets focus on renewed US strikes against Iran as Washington continues enforcing its blockade and tensions around the Strait of Hormuz remain elevated. The US struck a location in Iran’s Azerbaijan province, while Qatar sent its first LNG tanker through Hormuz in three weeks. Jordan also intercepted five Iranian missiles, with no casualties reported.
In markets, Asian technology stocks gained as earnings lifted sentiment, while South Korea tightened restrictions on leveraged ETFs. The Federal Reserve held interest rates steady, with three officials dissenting, as bond markets signal caution over inflation and Fed Chair Kevin Warsh says there is no soft inflation target.
Technology earnings remain in focus. Microsoft shares jumped nearly 9% after reporting the fastest cloud growth since 2022, while Meta shares fell almost 8% after issuing a weaker third-quarter sales outlook. Samsung shares rebounded after better-than-expected second-quarter results, while rising credit risks among Hyperscalers add to concerns ahead of earnings.
We also cover major US defense contracts, Starbucks’ improving sales momentum, L’Oréal’s stronger haircare demand, ADNOC Drilling’s higher second-quarter profit and plans to deploy 70 rigs by the end of 2026 using technology and AI, and Societe Generale’s €1.5 billion share buyback.
Elsewhere, Airbus raised profit on stronger aircraft deliveries while maintaining its outlook, Anglo American is reportedly considering a $1 billion sale of De Beers, and the Bank of England is expected to keep rates at 3.75% as policymakers assess the impact of oil prices.
Guests includes Rachana Mehta, Maybank Asset Management Regional Fixed Income Head; Abdulla Ateya Al Messabi, ADNOC Drilling CEO; Satya Nadella, Microsoft Chairman & CEO; Mark Zuckerberg, Meta Chairman & CEO; Josh Gilbert, ETORO Lead Analyst AIPAC & Middle East; and Thomas Toepfer, Airbus CFO.

Horizons Middle East & Africa is your daily spotlight on one of the world’s fastest-growing regions. Live from Dubai, we bring you the latest global markets and analysis, plus news-making interviews, with a special focus on MEA. Kentucky Governor Beshear Demands Transparency on Sen. McConnell’s Health

Published

on

Kentucky Democratic Governor Andy Beshear addressed concerns over Republican Senator Mitch McConnell’s prolonged absence from the Senate due to health issues. Governor Beshear revealed he sent letters to both McConnell and Senate Majority Leader John Thune requesting clear updates on McConnell’s health and his ability to fulfill his senatorial duties. The conversation then turned to the upcoming midterms, with Beshear saying affordability will be the “driving issue.” He believes Democrats are speaking to voter’s “pain,” with people being unable to afford groceries, pharmaceuticals, and housing, forcing families to live paycheck to paycheck. He speaks with Joe Mathieu on the late edition of Bloomberg’s “Balance of Power.”
