Trump’s Hormuz Update, OpenAI & Anthropic AI Alarms | The Pulse 8/5/2026
The US and Iran are closing in on an interim agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. President Trump says talks are going well and the waterway will open “very soon”.
SpaceX fell in premarket trading after it disclosed higher-than-expected spending on its artificial intelligence business, overshadowing an inaugural quarterly report that broadly surpassed Wall Street forecasts.
AI models developed by OpenAI and Anthropic carried out “unsanctioned” actions — including hacking a website and attempting to inject harmful code into software during safety testing. The report is reinforcing fears that neither the creators nor seasoned researchers of these systems can predict their actions.
Today’s guests: Beata Manthey, Citi Head of EMEA Equity Strategy; Mike Doustdar, Novo Nordisk CEO
