Former Gov. Glenn Youngkin Discusses 2028 Prospects

Former Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin says he does not anticipate being on a presidential debate stage in 2028, while stopping short of definitively ruling out a campaign. Youngkin also says communities should have the final say on data center development and that developers must address concerns about power, water and infrastructure. He also discusses his new initiative promoting a federal scholarship tax credit. He speaks with Kailey Leinz and Joe Mathieu on the late edition of Bloomberg’s “Balance of Power.”

Iran Seeks to Bar US & Israeli Ships from Hormuz | Daybreak Europe 8/7/2026

On today’s show, Iran wants to bar US and Israeli ships from crossing the Strait of Hormuz, according to Iranian media reports on a proposed deal being discussed by Iran and Oman. The semi-official Fars news agency says Iran also wants hostile countries to pay to be allowed to sail through the strait. European natural gas jumped following those reports.

Bond yields rose as the uncertainty in the Middle East raised inflation expectations. Traders now await the US jobs report for clues on the path ahead for interest rates.

Plus, the CEO of Rheinmetall has hit out at the German government over its decision to scrap a €10 billion naval contract. Germany’s biggest defense company cut its sales forecast after losing the deal.
