President Trump’s 50% tariffs on some Canadian goods started taking effect Saturday, after the United States and Canada failed to reach a trade deal, according to senior Trump administration officials.

Michael Cohen and Donald Trump had their first open conversation since the collapse of their professional and personal relationship more than eight years ago. Cohen told CNN the full interview, which airs in full on Sunday, lasted 40 minutes.

“How is it possible after all of what took place, all of the name-calling, the years of the public war, the verbal missiles that we threw at one another? How is it possible that the two of us can ever sit down again?” Cohen asked CNN’s Jake Tapper on The Lead before saying, “The answer is that we forgave.”

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has warned in an op-ed that an “economic D-Day” is coming for Iran, stopping short of giving further details. “Now we are entering the endgame. At dawn begins an economic D-Day — the single greatest financial offensive ever marshalled against an adversary,” he wrote in the Financial Times ahead of a scheduled news conference today.

The US has been imposing sanctions on Iran since 1979, after the US embassy in Tehran was seized following the Iranian Revolution, according to the US State Department.
