Lawrence: Georgia is the indictment that made Donald Trump shut up

In his first interview since Oscar Bergal was shot by plainclothes federal agents in New York City, Mayor Zohran Mamdani details his response to violence that he says “left New Yorkers in terror.” Bergal remains in ICE custody after a series of unsuccessful negotiations between the mayor, President Trump and DHS Secretary Mullin. “For the Secretary, none of this was an issue, none of the critiques and concerns you’re hearing from people across the city and across the country was an issue,” he said. ICE agents are “making a mockery of what law and order is supposed to be.”

What a great WEASELLY way to TRY (I don't think he can) not to be thrown in jail to await trial! I mean THAT is what would happen to him, if he got up to try driving his mouth through a LIE FEST, like he usually does.
But DO NOT be tempted to think he's turning over a leaf, and is now more amenable to … whatever. Donald Trump DOES NOT DO AMENABLE. Period. He does momentary hot takes, with no self-monitoring involved.
No, it is OUR UNCEASING SCRUTINY AND APPROPRIATE RESPONSES, that have brought him to this point, and IF he is indeed more inclined to take his CRIMINAL prosecution seriously, I wish him luck with that; he'll need it.
But DO NOT go easy on him over this. IF he has a meta-aim to this tweet (sorry, "X," it's a TWEET), then that motivation involves you and me relaxing our pressure on him "since" he is "coming around." I hope you could see the LIE in those quotes, because one thing we know about The Donald: he will NEVER stop. If WE want him stopped, WE have to stop him.

You say "terrified, terrified, terrified." I don't think Trump is terrified. I think he is angry and possibly depressed but he isn't scared and definitely not "terrified". To be "terrified" a person must have intelligence and awareness of a sitiation. DT has neither. He still thinks he's going to come out on top, win the presidency and get "huge" vengence.
And he just may do that. He might just be the next president. Never underestimate the stupidity of the majority of the American people.
