As one of China’s most well known fashion designers in the world, Guo Pei’s featured collection is one of a kind. Pei has surpassed the creativity that has been walking down the American runways for the past few years. Her collection this year is a collaboration of mixed art and fairytale magic, where the talented designer has taken Chinese culture and couture, putting together a masterpiece. On stage, models walked slowly, dressed in dream-like gowns that have their Chinese culture shining through. Her over-the-top creations consisted of luxurious colors such as red, gold, green and silver, silk, hand embroidery, traditional Chinese prints, thousands of pearls, high wedges and creative headpieces. One dress took about 7, 412 hours to make! Guo Pei is now China’s new haute couture.

Designer Marco Zanini has a long list of references–Tim Burton, Alfred Hitchcock, cinema…but the cat-eye sunglasses, the kerchiefs and the quiet conservative looks give off the air of a particular two decades. Organza, silk duchesse, pastel blue, embroidery, and shirtdresses that fell below the knee encompassed this fifties trend that seemed to reign throughout the collection–even as the colors and prints became louder with florals, orange, and a pink/white graphic pattern. And of course, the black reeled in that sophistication that Marco Zanini is known for with shift dresses, lace, and knits.

These costumes are indeed beautiful but I think the main objective for a clothing designer is to design clothing for people to wear… Not just look at! I don't see these clothes being worn any place except a fashion show.

Wow… This was a Guo Pei Extravaganza. It's a petty that you never get to see all the little details of the brodery on her gowns in this videos. Love so much her capacity of creativity. But I wonder like, for exemple, if you fall on the floor, would the dress still look the same? They always seem so so sooo delicat, so fragil. Lol if I get ro wear on of those dreses I'll be like, do not touche me, stay away from me.. Don't even talk. I'd loooove ro visit her ateliers.

Like something out of a fairytale. Enjoyed very much. Gorgeous. Now, what I really like about this one, is the models aren't speeding by at 90 miles per hour as they are at every other fashion show. Here it allows us to really take in the beauty and enjoy the 'art'. The rest of the fashion world could take a lesson from that.

Very original and extravagant clothes, some breathtakingly beautiful. However, putting the models in those "chopine" shoes really turned me off……shades of "bound feet" and other forms of female subjugation.
