Break down of how birthright citizenship case may elevate Trump’s power
The Supreme Court is hearing arguments today over President Trump’s order to limit birthright citizenship. The judges will not rule on birthright citizenship itself but whether lower courts have the authority to block presidential policies. If the judges side with the Trump administration, it would help Trump implement more policies via executive action. The Justice Department escalated its attack on protesters this week, charging 15 people in Minnesota with conspiracy to impede or injure federal officers.
