How Elon Musk’s Starlink Is Bringing In Billions For SpaceX
Starlink is SpaceX’s answer to providing global, high-speed internet coverage using a network of thousands of satellites buzzing around the planet in a region known as low Earth orbit (LEO), about 342 miles above the Earth’s surface. SpaceX launched its first batch of Starlink satellites back in 2019, and since then, adoption of the service has ballooned. Starlink now has over 2 million active customers and is available on all 7 continents and in over 60 countries. Starlink has been praised for its ability to connect remote parts of the world that would otherwise not have access to reliable internet. The service has also become indispensable in areas hit by natural disasters, and, more recently, during times of war, particularly the Russia-Ukraine war. But Starlink’s growing influence is garnering condemnation from some who say that SpaceX CEO, Elon Musk is meddling in geopolitics, while the scientific community is raising alarms of the effect of thousands of satellites on radio and optical astronomy.

AI’s Next Race: Cost, Control, and Compute
The AI race is shifting from who has the biggest model to who can run, control and deploy AI most effectively.
Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas joins to discuss the company’s new orchestrator model, why he’s building on open-source Chinese AI, and his argument that “token value per watt” may decide the next phase of competition.
Then, Benchmark general partner Peter Fenton and Ollama CEO Jeff Morgan discuss the rise of open models, why enterprises are increasingly running models they can download and control, and what Ollama’s growth says about where the AI ecosystem is heading.
Together, the conversations get at one big question: in AI’s next race, will the winners be defined less by model access and more by cost, control and compute?

How Warsh’s Task Forces Will Reshape The Federal Reserve
Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh is floating major revisions to the central bank’s approach to assets, productivity, data, inflation and public communications. To achieve this, Warsh has created 5 “task forces” while soliciting interest from individuals outside of the Fed. This presents an opportunity for a small unelected group to influence the broader U.S. economy and value of U.S. dollars circulating globally. CNBC’s Matt Peterson reports.

Add it up whats the revenue. What does it cost to replace all satellites, and how often do they need to be replaced. Is thete enough revenue to pay for all those satellites
@tmastersat
December 16, 2023 at 6:58 pm
Are you stupid or you involved in helping starlink. The gov paid for the satellites and they all have a limited lifespan. They will all have to be replaced on a schedule. There is not enough revenue to pay for all the replacement satellites that must be launched. I think it will go under once amazon goes online

We tried starlink. Too much downtime and way too expensive. Fiber came to the neighborhood recently and we signed up. Thrice the speed, half the price. I know many can’t wait, but starlink is a dying technology. Who knows what the next best thing will be? I can tell you this, it won’t be expensive satellites.

Thank you. Do things worth investigating our the low latency of stink. In other words, the time the signal gets to start looking back to earth again is much shorter than traditional satellites in geostationary orbit. The other thing is that the starling satellites will be communicating via laser and the Internet response timeAtlantic or transpacific should be faster than traditional under ocean Internet. This has an advantage for things, such as the stock market, the larger stink two satellites will be the ones to do the heavy lifting for this.

All these brilliant inventions are being used for war and strife. We can only describe ourselves as humans and not animals when all this effort, technology, money, and research is devoted purely for the human race to build houses, schools, hospitals, agriculture, and so on. My home in Puerto Rico is approximately 65 meters from the municipal road and cable and telephone companies were requiring absurd fees to connect us. I tried an LTE router and local 5GHz LOS service for a while and it worked until the kids grow up and discovered fortnite, minecraft, roblox, etc. So a year and a half Stalink was available in our area and I signed up. Got to say, it is the fastest internet service I have had on the island, faster and more reliable than the commercial internet connection at work. And during Hurricane Fiona on 2022 we never lost connection.
