Why Hydrogen-Powered Planes Will Beat Electric Planes
With 4.5 billion passenger trips taken each year and more than 16 million planes taking off annually in the U.S. alone, aircraft are responsible for 2.5% of global CO2 emissions, and the problem is growing. But there could be a solution that rivals the power of fossil fuels without the negatives – hydrogen. Aircraft giant, Airbus, is exploring the technology, as well as new startups, ZeroAvia and Universal Hydrogen. CNBC explores hydrogen planes and whether they could fix aviation’s emissions problem.

Brazil has the Macaúba tree that produces 8 to 10 times more biodiesel (6/8,000 liters/ha) than soybeans or sunflowers. This biodiesel in the refinery is transformed into aviation biokerosene.
If Brazil's 130 million hectares of degraded pastures were reforested, they would produce more than 1 trillion liters of diesel fuel per year. Africa can also produce as much with its 300 million hectares available.

Even USP in Brazil made a hydrogen reformer.
Highly polluting as it uses rare metals that need to move millions of tons of soil and forests. Congo has 58% mined by children under a semi-slave regime.
Where are they going to get 10 more Congos to explore?

The main issue is the production of hydrogen. The conventional method of hydrogen production involving the use of methane and fossil fuels ends up producing CO2 as a byproduct. The alternative method of using electrolysis of water is very expensive and a net energy sinking process because the amount to energy required to split water is higher than the amount of energy released in burning hydrogen if the efficiency of the entire process is taken into account.

Why are they not using Metal Hydrides???" MgH2 is safe, does not require compression, and stores more energy than both gas or liquid. They could also have on onboard electrolysis to produce added hydrogen while in flight!

If electric planes want to beat hydrogen-powered planes then they should've start research about a megawatt battery. Ion battery use lithium or sodium, what will happens if a proton battery or neutron battery exist? Are they using nano composite?

Each and every liquid-fuel-powered plane will beat any electrically-powered plane. By capacity/weight ratio, batteries are more than 50 times heavier than jet fuel. Only small, single-engine propeller planes are light enough to fly on electricity. If you want to transport multiple passengers fast and far, fuel-powered jet engines are the only way to go. Using hydrogen for this is waste of energy, though. Remember, hydrogen is not a primary source of energy. You first have to extract it from water or natural gas, which requires more energy than the hydrogen will ever be able to deliver.

Definitely this is the future, (green hydrogen derived ) liquid methanol fuel to fuel methanol fuel cell (and then electric motor without battery with way longer range and "rechargable" by refueling liquid methanol in just a minute just like any diesel engine. This is the future, better than "normal hydrogen" because methanol is a liquid fuel directly and easy derived from green hydrogen and way better usable than hydrogen because no need compression pressure storage and or ultra low temperature needed. Methanol liquid room temperature fuel is just a drop replacements in any gas station with little modification and same happens even with combustion engine but obviously fuel cell Ev gives more efficiency .

Hydrogen is five times lighter than gasoline and has twice the energy per kg.
The hydrogen on the plane will need a tank five times bigger to do the same thing as kerosene

burning hydrogen creates the same problems different cause. hydrogen + air, not just oxygen, creates greenhouse gases with greater greenhouse effects. don't hypw more problems just research your stories with more brains than personality. dead people accept everyone, even spin doctors leading the way for crimes again humanity and the rest of the world lack of future population.

The numbers are way off, it's like 80%+ . To prove this put die blue nontoxic fuel like they do in testing at LAX one day. Hydrogen is not the answer. Super high-speed rail on the continents, across the ocean Flying wings 10x the size of the current craft, that transports thousand of AirPods hanging on the wing. The cost to compress Hydrogen into the environment creates more carbon emissions than using jet fuel. The problem is why do a person need to fly to some other location. For many thousands of years, we existed without aircraft or any advanced tech. Why don't people understand they are being used just like pigs to create wealth for a few. Stay home enjoy life with your family, don't fall into the trap life is better in Qatar.

What about the high cost of platinum in the use of hydrogen? Flammability? Compressibility and leakage? High cost of making hydrogen? Give it up.
