   It seems as if retailers will soon have all the essential customer service pieces, with one exception … human beings.

   So, what do we do with the millions of people who once had retail jobs? We eliminated most bagging jobs. We've reduced the number of cashiers, replacing them with self-serve checkouts. Many stores have cut the number of shelf stockers to the bone. We're losing an excellent employment opportunity for young workers, retired workers, and workers who are trying to supplement the wages they're not getting from another employer.

   I began my retail career the day I turned 16. I worked with one store, part of a 27-store chain, for seven years. The money I earned made me less dependent on my parents. It enabled me to buy a dependable car. It paid for college tuition and books. It taught me many of the lessons that were so important in a rewarding career.

   Does anyone out there still care about jobs for the people who need them?

    We stopped having the autonomous inventory robots. Customers would block the robot which would enter a halt state. The machine would see a reflection in the floor and would enter a halt state. Both of which required hauling it back to the charge station manually by hand. Which means you had to have employees there to monitor it. On hands were constantly being adjusted downwards even though the shelves had freight on them causing over ordering. The whole thing was unfortunately a mess. The thing is, if you have not enough supply you can continue to function. But if you have to much supply you no longer have the ability to receive freight because there is nowhere to put it.

    Or just use computers which have been around a minute and deduct products sold from initial stock levels and you already know what needs replacing. A camera looking at empty shelf space is not impressive. At all. Watch these workers at the grocery store and its alot involved in getting the products up. Alot of hand and arm and body manipulation a robot cant do currently. Now if they set up different shelving and made it so a robot could do it then maybe. The entire store would need to re configured and it wouldn't be packed in tightly as it is now. We'll see??? This was all supposed to be going on 10 years ago. What this video shows uscis machines that have been around 10 yesrs anyway doing nothing new.

    I’ve got mixed feelings. Everyone cries about the lost jobs but a majority of retail workers, me being a former one, see that as a good thing. No, not the person who loses their job or has no job. Surely they need something to pay them. But they’re thankless jobs, where even if you succeed, the company wants to topple you. No succeeding, just do your peasant job. It’s like a triangle of hell. Customer, company and employee. Each do not particularly get along.

    So another mindless gadget that is uncapable to help customers.
    It is ftustrating that the people working in a store have no clue wherre items are located or answer a question.

    At least the robot will not ignore you.

    Why don't combine shelving and robot. I see all supermarket waste all the spaces on top of the top shelves, and often supermaket have very high ceiling.
    The engineer should devolop the robot running hanging down the ceiling so it would knock into people and customers at all time.
