   We need to become less dependent on china, its not only the production but also the market sales. We need to invest more in our own chip factories so they can stay on top of the game. We need a TSMC in Europe and a TSCM in the USA.

   Central and Western NY (aka Syracuse/Rochester/Buffalo regions) is surrounded by abundant water sources (Great Lakes) and public hydroelectric capacity (NY State Power Authority)…. W/ past success in tech (Wolfspeed/Xerox/Kodak,etc), +50 leading universities (SyrUniv. RIT, UofRochester, Cornell, SUNY, RPI-Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, MIT/Harvard and all Ivy League schools with a 4-5 hr drive, along with U Chicago, Michigan and Michigan St, Case Western, Battelle Institute, plus the community college network within NYS’s SUNY system, is the largest state university organization in the nation) the workforce pipeline of interested and capable staff to work at Micron and its ecosystem partners that will also be building infrastructure to deliver for them, seems to be essentially in place….

    I don't know who would be worst the californians or now the new yorkens. Both are aliens. Cali has been coming to boise for 40 years with tons of money made from properties that in california was 5 times the value of what they could get in boise and thinking they were large and all. I don't want to know how the New yorkers might be. Does make property values go up though. Not that places like McCall were ever real inexpensive. Thinks to the big JR Idaho has new yorkers moving in now. I would suggest that new yorkers will love Idaho. It isn't wide open like it used to be but to a new yorker it might seem just that way. What is behind me is the south fork of the Boise river above Arow rock toward Atlanta. Beautiful country. Take care New yorkers and be good to Idaho.

    stop the trade wars and sanctions. allow asian company and China chip maker to acquire specialized chip and sell there goods to the US. In that way the whole world will not suffer. This problem was not created just last week, its decades in the making. This is the result of greed and low labor exploitation AKA modern slavery of the 1st world nations to the 3rd world countries. Luckily China had use this opportunity to there advantage and make there country successful and in route to become the world's economic power surpassing troubled US and the decelerating UK.

    It will be awesome once Intel finishes their new fab and we get to making some gpus for Nvidia right here, both Nvidia and AMD might start sourcing production from Intel with its new state of the art facility finished. US Intel production could make more cpus and gpus for competing companies like TSMC already does. TSMC has their chip production already sold for years ahead and cant produce anymore then what they are now, we could even be looking at a reacquainted Apple and Intel relationship.

    OpenAI became self aware on ……… 😉 Joking aside, new AI chips will have memory onboard. Separate memory will go away. Look at IBMs Northpole. It has memory co-located on the compute. This is 8x faster than NVidia's A100 and 5 times faster than their newest H100. Apple chips have the memory on the same die as the compute cores.

    Compare & contrast American Industrial Policy now and in the 80’s. I wonder if “workers” would be happier, less Trumpier if they hadn’t seen so many jobs go to China. Just asking. Don’t know.

    Either it is misleading editoring or Kathy Hochul is talking out her ass about the Arizona labor shortage not happening in NY because, "this is not a new industry to us." Oh please, politicians are so dishonest. Arizona already has a bunch of high end vhip fabs and has been a been a major location for the technology for decades. The reason there is a skilled labor shortage in AZ right now is because several major fabs are being constructed here.

    Micron was not a pawn in the politics of chips. They were lobbying for US chip sanctions agaisnt China which is one reason they have now been sanctioned. You reap what you sow.

    My biggest question is why would they build their new factory in N. Y.. That increases the cost of their products as employees will need to be paid more to offset the higher tax costs for employees. Seems states that have lower tax rates, better weather conditions, and no union states would have been cheaper. States like N. Y. and California are losing their population bases.
