The reason for low / negative interest rates was fundamentally about mobilizing cash. Particularly from cash hoarders.
A more effective solution would be to raise taxes on these hoarders (wealthy institutions and families) up from their 80-year low, back to something resembling sanity and redistributing that cash to cash-spending consumers through debt forgiveness, free healthcare, free school, etc. Then consumers, armed with spending power, can show you which companies are actually not zombies / producing valuable output.

The people responsible aren't the Fed. It the Company Execs. These zombie companies need to go bust. The Banks, company shareholders and bondholders need to lose all their money. If a few ex. Execs later get the Vito treatment from disgruntled investors then there would be less chance of this happening again. That's how capitalism is supposed to work. Bailing out bust companies is communism, of the dirty corrupt sort.

This will be a crash if the Fed NORMALIZES interest rates to 5% or greater. Since 2008, the Fed has implemented Emergency Monetary Policies of 0% interest rates and QE money printing of trillions annually! It is insane that people thought the Fed could just keep Emergency Monetary Policies FOREVER! Most pundits are hoping the Fed will “pivot” and return to Emergency Monetary Policies of 0% interest rates and QE money printing of trillions annually for ANOTHER 14 years! It seems as if Mainstream Media is brainwashed and has guzzled the Fed Koolaid!

America used to be the “Wealthiest Country in the World” when we were on a Sound Money Silver and Gold Standard! After the Gold Window was TEMPORARILY closed in 1971, America has become “The Most Indebted Country in World History!” The Dollar was originally and ounce of silver. Now, a dollar IS DEBT!

    Solution
1 End the Fed and all Central Banks!
2 Return to Free Market Capitalism with NO Crony Capitalist / Corporate Socialist bailouts and NO Fed Put market manipulation!
3 Return to a Sound Money Silver and Gold Standard like the Founding Fathers intended!

US Zombie Companies include Ford, GM, Boeing, all of the Airlines, and most of the "blue chips." The healthiest companies are the Mega Caps like Tesla.

  26. @libertysprings2244

    December 19, 2023 at 9:47 pm

I disagree that they had to lower rates. It was a choice they made to punish savers. If savers got 5%+ on their savings to better match true inflation the past 10 yrs, they could spend more on donations and vacation and things to stimulate the economy. Giving the money to zombie companies and real estate bubbles through the low rates isn't necessarily the better choice

  27. @libertysprings2244

    December 19, 2023 at 9:47 pm

One problem is those companies are taking workers that other better businesses need right now.

  28. @johnmerlino7011

The Fed should stop buying 10yr bonds to suppress bond yields so that these Zombie companies fail. Let the 10 year treasury bond yields spike naturally!

Bank of America Results Hit by Weaker Trading, $1.2 Billion Penalty

Published

on

Bank of America’s stock and fixed-income traders missed estimates in the third quarter, with bond-trading revenue falling 17% to $2.55 billion and equity trading down 10% to $2.51 billion. The bank’s results were also hurt by a charge tied to a regulatory penalty over money laundering and sanctions violations. Kristine Aquino reports on Bloomberg Television.
