Nicolle and Aaron Sorkin: This is Trump’s ‘ultimate mind f***’
Aaron Sorkin wasn’t planning to make another movie about Facebook — until he met a whistleblower whose story he felt compelled to tell. In an expansive conversation with Nicolle Wallace, the Oscar- and Emmy-winning writer and director discusses his new film, The Social Reckoning, and the extraordinary power Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook wield over nearly 3 billion people — and the costly decisions that have shaped the platform’s impact on our lives, our politics and our democracy.
A follow-up to 2010’s The Social Network, Sorkin’s new film examines Facebook in the age of Trump, telling the story of whistleblower Frances Haugen’s decision to expose internal documents detailing misinformation and potential harms, while exploring an older Zuckerberg confronting the consequences of the technology he created. Sorkin explains why he chose to release the film ahead of the midterm elections and why he believes there is still room for optimism — if we are willing to act.
Wallace and Sorkin explore Zuckerberg’s immense influence, the decisions surrounding Facebook on January 6, the people inside the company who knew what was happening and remained silent, and why Wallace sees Zuckerberg as “bubble wrapped from reality.” They discuss the complicated empathy the film invites audiences to feel for Zuckerberg — and how that empathy can coexist with accountability for decisions that affect billions. Sorkin also shares the story of Zuckerberg’s former consigliere and their falling out, his reaction to Jeremy Strong’s portrayal of Zuckerberg (whom Sorkin calls “the best American actor under 50 years old”), and Facebook’s efforts to obtain the film’s script before its release. He reveals how the filmmakers prepared for potential legal challenges, including the threat of a lawsuit.
The conversation also examines Trump’s relationship with Zuckerberg, the former president’s attacks on the media despite his apparent appetite for attention from credible news organizations, and the essential role investigative journalism plays in holding powerful people and institutions accountable. Wallace and Sorkin discuss why Congress and the law continue to lag behind rapidly advancing technology, the consequences of leaving that power unchecked, and why the stakes for democracy could hardly be higher.
And in a moment that connects Sorkin’s celebrated work across generations, the conversation turns to A Few Good Men, Hegseth’s “illegal order” and the enduring importance of questioning authority. Wallace, who was inspired by Allison Janney’s portrayal of White House Press Secretary C.J. Cregg on The West Wing to imagine a future for herself in the White House, joins Sorkin in reflecting on the responsibilities of the press, the dangers of unchecked power and the choices that define our political moment.
From Facebook’s influence over billions of lives to Trump, whistleblowers, investigative journalism and the future of American democracy, Sorkin’s message is clear: We need to take democracy more seriously.

If Congressmen and women aren’t going to work , impeach them .
They need to be working. If they don’t know what they should be doing they should let us know . There are plenty of people that could help you.

Gosh, this was really bad when Shutdown Cruz pulled his crap quite a while ago and now here they are doing it as if it were the right decision again. I'm hoping for the right outcome to this MAGA party problem and I will hope the electorate will get rid of the idiots that get in the way of progress. I'll keep a bit of faith that our Democracy will survive the idiocy.

why can't people understand that republicans want a civil war, and nothing else will make them happy!. so I think we should get our guns and give them what they want! I hope they figure out that what they are doing is pure stupidity, they are letting propagandist to lead them by the nose filling their heads with lies about democrats!. old Rupert Murdoch is getting his wish which is for America to go to war with itself, so he can record it and sell that news for billions of dollars all around the world!. its a shame how they were allowed to take regulars news stories and twist them into something unrecognizable, just so they could demonize democrats!. what I can't understand is how can republicans who claim to be good Christians, could sit there and listen to the hate and bigotry coming out of his mouth and not realize his Evil!!!.

All it takes is a concerted and cohesive effort. The poor and middle class have the political power IF they choose to use it. There is no legal or constitutional barrier, I am aware of, to prevent us from passing legislation that any business that profits from the work of employees can not pay any one individual more than 100 times (or less) the salary of its lowest payed employee. This would only adversely effect about 0.5 % of the population; and not egregiously. Fat cats could still fill their coffers with multiple companies paying them large salaries (that are only minimally grotesque) as well as stocks, real estate, etc – The obscenely rich would still have ample opportunities to horde wealth.
But pay tied to corporate compensation would be more equitable – the middle class would expand to encompass nearly all living in poverty, – and a potential for additional corporate profits going to paying stock dividends (like they're supposed to) and lowering prices of merchandise. We can have a capitalism that isn't quite so laissez-faire, a more socialized version of capitalism that isn't necessarily Socialism – but rather equitability.
My problem is with the capitalism that makes profit the cut-throat prime directive. Employee compensation is systematically minimized to increase profits for the corporation, while the executives pay themselves millions because, for some reason, the same economic concept doesn't apply to them.

Considering that since this video came out, McCarthy "flipped" for lack of a better word and allowed a continuing resolution to go through with bipartisan support to fund the government for 45 days, he kind of stuck it in the MAGA/freedom caucus face. Now we find out if they have the balls to actually boot him…. since they will get no one they want and nothing they want. They lose.
