Published

on

As the reality of women’s health and the complications that can arise in pregnancy crashes into Republican anti-abortion political stunting, Republican politicians are struggling for answers to real-world situations that don’t adhere to their cartoonish politics. Jessica Valenti, publisher of the Abortion Every Day newsletter, discusses with Alex Wagner.

The Republicans are going to lose so bad in the coming elections. Women are going to come out of the woodwork in droves to vote!!!

Let me translate Texas's "pRo LiFe" laws for everyone:
Pre born children have rights when it leaves women vulnerable to harm. That's it. Any other time, the pre born have no rights. Texas doesn't care about babies, they just want women to suffer.

Wanting to get an abortion should be a human right to have.

The people writing these laws don't give a crap about the secondary consequences of health and safety for women. They just need women to know that they aren't qualified to control their own bodies and lives. This is about restoring the patriarchy.

No matter what you call it, non viable means, not alive. Deceased, No heartbeat, not growing. Dead. This poor woman is walking around with a dead body inside her. I wish the media, the journalist, the reporter would just call it like it is. The child is dead. Go ahead and shock the nation by telling the truth. Go ahead and say the child is dead instead of trying to make it more polite or digestible. Dead.

My hubby and I were talking about this last night. Its just ludicrous! It makes no logical sense. We are a modern day society, with advanced medical technology to help our people who suffer. NO ONE should have to go through what these women do. Its like we've gone back in time 100 years! My daughter, who is 26, married and has a toddler, found out yesterday she had an ectopic pregnancy. Luckily, they caught it before she had to have surgery, and she must have fallen under the medical emergency clause (I confess I don't know all the laws in Iowa on this), and they gave her the shots she needed to have her body terminate the pregnancy. She's distraught and in a lot of pain at the moment, but I feel so lucky that she was "allowed" this basic right and we don't have to worry about losing our daughter over this, and our granddaughter doesn't have to lose her mother. Its just mind blowing to me what's happening in this country. I can't imagine if they had denied her the medication to help her. Over some stupid political idea.

Abortion is part of women’s healthcare.

  20. @fallen_artist

    December 23, 2023 at 1:41 am

The definition of abortion needs to be redefined as purposefully ending a viable or possible viable growing baby before the natural birth. If the baby lost cardiac activity or even developed without a head, that baby is unfortunately already dead. At that point it's not an abortion, it's a medical matter that needs to be dealt with properly.

In an abortion, the baby has to come out some how so why not give it a fighting chance at life instead of killing it prematurely 🤷🏼‍♀️

    December 23, 2023 at 1:41 am

If the MAGA think it's a good idea to keep up with taking away women's rights and minority rights, was a good idea, after losing seats last election, wait till the next one comes along. And Democrats need to speak louder and point out what is happening. People need a reality scare so that they know what the MAGA is going to do. It should not just be up to the media to point these things out. Biden has been speaking out, analysts have been speaking out and a few Democrats speak out. If they want to get rid of this disease everyone needs to speak out and loudly.

  22. @greatboniwanker

    December 23, 2023 at 1:41 am

Now we have to distinguish between medically necessary procedures and ending unwanted pregnancies?

Meanwhile, if there was a 50-50 chance that the dude might get pregnant, these hypocrites would have abortion clinics on every corner.

  23. @shama9279

    December 23, 2023 at 1:41 am

Induce labor, have child. Abortion just rips the baby apart in pieces.
I rather have a child and a funeral than rip the child out and be thrown in the trash.

    Think about it

  24. @marleneclausen30

    December 23, 2023 at 1:41 am

Good for Valenti, they ARE putting realities in the forefront. It is making it crystal clear that women and voters, across the board, understand exactly the Republican lawmakers are NOT restricting abortions to "protect babies." They have only ONE agenda: regulating and restricting women." They are afraid of the power of women in the workplace and in public life. They don't care if women are liberal or conservative, Republican or Democrat, Christian or non-Christian. They all, in their thinking, threaten the superior position men hold in public and private life. Per their usual reaction, they run away, hide, dodge, lie, conflate, anything but face what they have brought on themselves. Women should, and certainly looks as if they are and will, exercise their voices at the ballot box . . . before this law is aborted.

  33. @synnegraven-sneltorp3682

    December 23, 2023 at 1:41 am

Up to 20% of women go through miscarriages. Before they do, most of them and the people around them have never heard of diagnosis such as silent miscarriage or blighted ovum – or other conditions where medical intervention may be necessary to remove a pregnancy that has no future and only causes risk to the mother. The conservative view of miscarriages is so tainted by Hollywood – quick, easy and straight forward.

Medicine regarding female issues took a big regression in the US when they lost their abortion/pregnancy intervention rights. Happy to live in Europe!
