Given Mr. Hosseini's extraordinary depth of understanding of his country, its recent history, its people, and his and their religion, wouldn't it make sense for the US State department to make use of him as a consultant in diplomatic relations (or lack of them) with the Taliban? He has been a "cultural" commentator on Afghanistan. The difference between cultural influence and diplomatic influence is a title. The State Department is very good at making up titles.

The kite runner was the WORST book I’ve ever read in my life. Good job defaming your own people with your openly RACIST BOOK. YOU DON’T REPRESENT AFGHANS OR AFGHANISTAN IN ANYWAY.

I read A Thousand Splendid Suns in 2014. Since the fiasco last August I've been feeling a pull to read it again, and I finally have. I'm so sadden and terrified for the women. I wish I could give them all a big hug and bring them to a safe country.

When the Taliban took control of Afghanistan, the first thing that came to my mind was Khaled Hosseini, the kite runner

Funny, the movie kite runner showed that peaceful , prosperous Afghan Kabul, was shot in Xinjiang China, where the west condemn genocide, forced labour. What a joke!

I have been fascinated by Afghanistan for decades, but history books—as necessary as they—can’t touch a heart like Hosseini’s books. Both of his books made me sob, but A Thousand Splendid Suns tore my heart. He’s an important voice for his people, who deserve better. I don’t know if my tears and prayers will help, but I pray for them anyway, hoping that the innocents will be shielded from the evil we see—from the comfort of our air-conditioned living rooms.

this book was first introduced to me in 8th grade and none of my classmates were interested in it. meanwhile I, myself, bought the book so I can finish it, while everyone else was still reading it. It affected me so much and was the first book that ever made me so emotional. The devastating occurrence of Kabul reminded me of the book again and how upsetting it is to know that Kabul will never be what Amir once lived in when he was a kid in the book. Really upsetting and emotional.

How many people know that the film was shot in Xinjiang, China. Where the West claims genocide.

This man's books are worth far more than a Nobel Prize. Their impact on me as a reader was the same as all great classic novels that I read throughout my life, with a strong cathartic effect. Living in a German speaking country and having come to know afghan refugees I can only identify with the enormous hardships and traumata of these people who nevertheless retained human dignity and above all a light and a lightness in their attitude to life. I feel their God is a big part of this feeling and since I share that same importance of God's hand in my life I could truly connect with the afghan narrative which is both imaginary and very real.
I am deeply concerned by what's happened and that this wonderful nation would face another ordeal. I call on the UN to provide an opportunity for all people willing to leave to do so through a humanitarian corridor as well as the establishment of refugee quotas among world countries. I also call on the UN to revise the withdrawal of its mission and to create a multi coalition governing structure within the country, both military and civil.
My prayers are with afghan people!! God Save them and keep them safe!!
