The Wall Street Journal has a new two-part feature detailing what it describes as Europe’s ‘rupture’ with the United States following this week’s NATO Summit in Turkey. The Journal reports that President Trump’s tariff’s and threats to take Greenland has sparked a quote, “rebellion” amongst European leaders who are now drawing limits on so-called “flattery diplomacy.” The paper reports many leaders now view autonomy as the long-term goal,. Rather than a temporary measure, adding that even if leadership changes the era of relying on America so heavily had ended. Asa Canadian, I am saddened and also, anxious, to see the US struggling with this very difficult time. A country always strong on democratic principles, fiercely guarding its democracy and fighting for others to have the right to have one. We are next door and are affected by everything that happens there. I truly hope that Justice prevails and those who have sought to wrest the rights of people to vote and to believe what they believe, unattacked, will Be stopped.
