    On labor, I think you have to consider the possibility that the covid shutdown identified certain marginal participants in the labor economy who discovered they were not that much worse off as formally unemployed, not only because they found some alternative economic activity but also because the cost of working (child care, transportation, etc.) was high relative to their pay. In some cases, employers can't pay them enough to come back to work, either because their contribution to profits doesn't make higher pay profitable or because the employers' businesses haven't picked up enough, or both. (Restaurants serving lunch to office workers may not be profitable if office workers continue to work from home two days a week.) In some such cases, the opportunity cost of giving up staying at home, at least some days, may be a significant disincentive against marginal employment. And many of these marginal positions are jobs that can't be done from off-site.

Russia is preparing to escalate attacks on Ukraine after concluding that negotiations for a peace deal have reached a dead end, according to three people close to the Kremlin.
For now, Russia is weighing an intensification of powerful conventional ballistic missile attacks on Kyiv, including the center of the capital, and infrastructure targets in other Ukrainian cities, the people said, asking not to be identified because the matter is sensitive.
