Technology stocks fall ahead of the US June payrolls report. The yen strengthens sharply against the dollar as traders stay alert for a potential intervention from the Japanese government. Apple is said to have appealed to the Trump administration in an effort to buy Chinese-made memory chips from firms on Pentagon’s blacklist. OpenAI is reportedly having discussions about giving the US government a 5% stake in the company. Veronica Clark of Citi looks ahead to the June jobs report.

Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh said price risks have come down in recent weeks, and the central bank will deliver price stability. “Prices are too high, and I don’t think I’m the only one on this stage that’s recommitted to deliver price stability,” Warsh said on Wednesday at the European Central Bank’s annual Forum on Central Banking in Sintra, Portugal.
