The Taiwan dollar has been turbocharged by exporters rushing to convert their holdings of US dollars to the island’s currency. The divergence is the latest sign of seemingly insatiable demand for the Taiwan dollar driven by speculation the authorities will allow it to appreciate to help advance trade talks with this US.  The rally also bolstered regional currencies including the Malaysian ringgit and Chinese yuan. 

Ford Motor Co. suspended its full-year financial guidance and said President Donald Trump’s auto tariffs will take a toll on profit, joining rivals stung by volatile global trade policies. Ford cited seven factors in withdrawing its earlier forecast including potential “industrywide supply chain disruption” tied to Trump’s duties and the risk that levies may increase in the future.
