On today’s show, Iran has reportedly offered the US a new proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Oil pared gains and stocks advanced following the report by Axios. Iran’s semi-official news agency, Tasnim, says nuclear issues will not be discussed until the US ends its blockade of Hormuz. Axios says President Trump will hold a White House Situation Room meeting today.

The man accused of storming the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday spent years building up his arsenal of weapons, according to intelligence documents seen by Bloomberg. Cole Tomas Allen is due in court on Monday to face federal charges including using a firearm during a crime of violence, and assault on a federal officer with a dangerous weapon.

And bond traders will be keeping a close eye on this week’s rate decisions by the world’s most important central banks. The Fed is set to lead the way with a hold, as policymakers watch for the impact of higher energy costs on inflation. The Bank of Japan, Bank of England and European Central Bank also publish rate decisions this week.

Meta Platforms Inc. shares slid after the company raised its spending outlook for the year, reigniting fears that the historic levels of investment it’s making to build artificial intelligence models won’t pay off.
The social-media giant projected full-year capital expenditures between $125 billion and $145 billion, far exceeding analysts’ estimates and marking a roughly 7.4% increase from what the company had previously projected. The company is dealing with “higher component pricing” and additional data center costs, Chief Financial Officer Susan Li said in a statement. Bloomberg’s Kurt Wagner joins to discuss.
