‘Who voted for this?’: Trump and Musk cut women’s health research

The Women’s Health Initiative, a project within the NIH that focused on medical research into chronic diseases in postmenopausal women, announced that their funding has been cut by the Trump administration. The project’s regional research centers are expected to close in September even though the annual funding price for the entire project is only $10 million. The initiative is possibly best know for its study of the potential risks of estrogen plus progestin hormone therapy, research that is said to have prevented 126,000 cases of breast cancer and 76,000 cases of heart disease over the following decade alone.
