How Corning Invented A New Fiber-Optic Cable For AI And Landed A $6 Billion Meta Deal
Meta is giving Corning up to $6 billion for fiber-optic cable in its AI data centers, in a deal reported first by CNBC. Famous for making iPhone glass for Apple, the 175-year-old U.S. company is now at the heart of the AI infrastructure boom, with demand for fiber sending its stock up more than 70% in the last year. CNBC went to North Carolina for an exclusive interview with Corning CEO Wendell Weeks about a new type of fiber he helped invent for AI, plus a look at an expansion that Corning says will make its Hickory cable factory the largest in the world, all to meet demand from Meta and other data center giants like Nvidia, OpenAI, Google and Microsoft.

What’s Stopping GLP-1s From Getting Cheaper
The push to make weight loss drugs more affordable is running into legal limits. Telehealth company Hims & Hers pulled a less expensive oral version of Wegovy after lawsuits from Novo Nordisk and rising regulatory scrutiny. The dispute centers on pharmaceutical compounding, which is legal for individualized patient needs, and whether it crossed into large-scale marketing. With semaglutide no longer in shortage, Novo says compounded versions are not justified. CNBC’s Brandon Gomez reports.
