President Donald Trump said Wednesday that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth would remain on the job, even as he acknowledged that the war with Iran had contributed to Republicans’ sweeping midterm losses and as Democrats prepare to use their new congressional majority to potentially investigate the Pentagon chief.
Trump dismissed the possibility of replacing Hegseth, telling reporters he was “doing a great job.” When asked about speculation that Hegseth is eyeing Republican Sen. Marsha Blackburn’s soon-to-be-vacated Tennessee seat, Trump predicted the defense secretary would be “very popular” in the state.

Everybody at the Capitol on January 6th remained behind the barriers that was until Capitol Police remove the barriers and actually invited us into the premises. My heart breaks for the pain these honourable police officers felt on January 6, and still feel today. The behaviour of Trump and his Republican partners has been utterly disgraceful. Never forget that it was the Republican party, with Trump as their standard bearer who caused this. It's no wonder the Republican Senate didn't want an investigation into the events of that day, given their complicity in it. Each and every one of them bears responsibility for the pain of these officers.
