Why people are you complaining because you were stranded? You should be very glad and very thankful that you are alive and you went home alive other than you went home in a body bag. You should appreciate the pilots of the plane with their good decision and insight. They were thinking about everyone's safety. This is your lucky day you are alive. We congratulate and respect the pilots of the plane for their good decision, Delta or not.

On September 11, 2001, after flights were rerouted to their nearest airports, thirty-eight jets suddenly landed in Gander, stranding some seven thousand passengers for up to five days in a town with only five hundred hotel rooms……Totals. The actual number of diverted aircraft and passengers varies from each source. Transport Canada said over 33,000 passengers on 224 flights arrived in Canada, whereas Nav Canada gave a total of 239 flights.

Oh the horror of it all … then the hermaphrodite that "didn't know what day it was anymore" should remain behind for a psych eval and that slob in glasses should be taken in for questioning … how about thanking the crew for a great touchdown … on land

The spin on this report is that the sneering description on Canada and the worst stereotype of Americans. Maybe these ungrateful passengers should watch the story that inspired "Come From Away" and give it a rest. How quickly people forget.

The worst part of this situation wasn’t being “stranded in Canada”. Would this have been any better if they’d been sitting on a plane in the US? No. The worst part was being stuck on a plane, after flying across the Atlantic, and then being forced to sit on that plane for another 16 hours on the tarmac. Staying in barracks at Goose Bay isn’t like staying at the Hilton, but at least they were able to finally get off that plane and get some rest and use a bathroom that wasn’t a filthy aircraft one. I’m glad these poor passengers are safe, that the plane didn’t crash, and that they’re back home with their families again. What I can’t wrap my head around is why they couldn’t have been allowed to deplane nearly immediately at Goose Bay. The priority needs to be to get people off the plane and into safe, reasonably comfortable surroundings, until the airline figures out what to do next. Anything else is inexcusable.

  24. @joetran8798

    December 19, 2023 at 5:14 am

There are worse places to be stranded in. At least they didn't have "military assets" surrounding the plane like the poor folks who had to land in Russia. I guess the barracks there were the only facilities that could accommodate them at the time. Hopefully the rest of their trip was much better.

  28. @Za_Sticky_One

    December 19, 2023 at 5:14 am

What's wrong with goose bay? Newfoundland is a beautiful province. Plus they were going to Detroit which is right next to Windsor. So whats the big deal? Besides Detroit isn't exactly a tourist attraction either! At least in Goose Bay you don't have entire blocks abandoned and filled with squatters.

This is what an emergency decision and emergency landing looks like. Did they expect a tutorial of what the emergency would look like in advance or were they thinking they'd be put in a hotel? Just thank your lucky stars you're alive and you can thank Delta too.

RE: passengers stranded nearly 24 hours….

From Canada, I am from Newfoundland. Your reporter got the pronunciation wrong. Newfoundland is not pronounced New Fin Land but rather New Fun Land.

Goose Bay is in Labrador — not on the island of Newfoundland. However the correct name of our province is the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador. I am sure the 270 Delta passengers were glad there was a remote airport for them to land on in Goose Bay as opposed to treading water for 24 hours in the icy Atlantic Ocean.
