President Trump launched the U.S. into a new trade war with Canada, imposing 50% tariffs on $20 billion worth of Canadian goods. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Trump wants Canada to “negotiate in good faith.” In response, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said that Canada was at war with the U.S. and lamented that “America has changed” and promised “dollar for dollar” retaliation. Protests form as some Ohio Haitians face ICE deadline today to surrender or wear ankle monitor
As hundreds of Ohioans take to the streets in an early morning protest, members of Springfield, Ohio’s Haitian community are contending with the end of TPS protections and possible deportation, with many facing a deadline of TODAY to turn themselves into ICE or choose to wear an ankle monitor while they wait for their fates to be worked out by the courts. In order to get any idea of what is taking place I find it helpful to use a variety of news sources. Most news services have an agenda that they promote since they find it attracts market share. This is true for both right and left wings agendas. My views range the full gamut and include what many would consider conservative but I also believe in some liberal concepts as well. It all depends on the topic. In watching a number of news feeds I unfortunately have to conclude that MSNBC and to a large extent CNN are at the far extreme of promoting left wing views and in many cases carefully select sections of speeches instead of letting viewers see the whole presentation in context allowing viewers to reach their own conclusions. If you limit yourself to these networks you are not getting the reporting of events but being told what to think. Some of the coverage on Fox and other right leaning networks also do the same thing but at least these networks are more likely to present events in context. The BBC is also a useful source. So if you are a thinking person interested in the complex nature of many of the problems this country faces I find it is worthwhile not to limit myself to a single echo chamber. Most of the problems this nation faces are complex and not as simple as many of these networks portray them.
